PURPOSE:
The Residence Hall Director and Community Standards Coordinator is a live-in professional staff member within the Division of Student Affairs who plays a critical role in fostering the educational, personal, and social development of students living in on-campus housing. Reporting to the Associate Director for Residence Life and Student Development, with a secondary reporting line to the Assistant Dean of Student Conduct and Community Standards, this position is responsible for the comprehensive management of one to two residential buildings, supervision of 3–12 Resident Assistants (RAs), and the coordination of developmental programming.
This role combines traditional residence hall management with a significant focus on student conduct and community standards. In addition to overseeing hall operations and residential life, the position is instrumental in managing student behavior, serving as a hearing officer, conducting investigations, facilitating educational sanctions, and supporting the University's student conduct processes. The Residence Hall Director and Community Standards Coordinator work to create and sustain safe, inclusive, and vibrant residential communities that promote student learning, accountability, and success.
The successful candidate will serve as a key resource for students, collaborate effectively with campus partners, provide crisis response and on-call support, and uphold the University's mission and commitment to holistic student development.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Residential Community Leadership and Management:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for residential communities aligned with university goals.
- Ensure residential facilities meet health, safety, and security standards.
- Promote an inclusive community that supports the needs of underrepresented student populations.
- Oversee the daily operations of one to two residence halls.
- Assist in hall security and facility management efforts, including key control and health/safety inspections.
Student Supervision and Development:
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a staff of 5 – 12 Resident Assistants: lead staff training, development, and team-building activities.
Community Standards and Conduct Administration:
- Serve as an administrative hearing officer for student conduct cases related to residence life and housing policy violations.
- Conduct investigations of alleged incidents, interview involved parties, assess severity, and determine appropriate sanctions following university policies.
- Educate residents about community standards, policies, and their rights and responsibilities.
- Maintain accurate conduct records and submit timely reports using the Maxient conduct management system, including instances such as students of concern, student behavioral issues, sexual misconduct allegations, and other relevant student conduct matters.
- Supervise the residence-based student conduct system, promoting educational outcomes and community standards.
Student Support and Crisis Intervention:
- Provide crisis intervention and support to residents, making referrals to the CARE team or other support offices as appropriate.
- Participate in a rotating on-call duty schedule that includes after-hours, weekend, and holiday coverage to respond to student emergencies and incidents.
- Advise and support residents in their academic, social, and personal development.
- Assist in campus retention and student success initiatives through relationship-building, outreach, and early intervention.
Collaboration and Administration:
- Support the development and implementation of residential learning communities in collaboration with faculty and staff.
- Collaborate with campus partners to enhance academic support, wellness initiatives, and identity-based programming within the residence halls.
- Participate in departmental recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation processes for student and professional staff.
- Collect and analyze data on housing trends, student satisfaction, and program outcomes to inform strategic decisions.
- Recommend policy improvements in support of student success and retention.
- Foster relationships with key campus partners, including Academic Advising, Student Health & Well-being, Student Conduct, Student Engagement, and Career Services.
- Collaborate with the Office of Engagement to promote, support, and actively participate in campus events and initiatives that enhance student involvement and community building.
- Contribute to housing and residence life-wide initiatives, planning, assessment, and special projects.
- Serve as a member of university-wide committees and emergency response teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Student Affairs Officer & Dean of Students.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in student personnel, student development, or related field.
- Minimum one year experience in University Residence Life and Housing or Student Conduct is required.
- Experience in student accountability and an awareness of emerging issues in higher education, residence life and housing, community building, and student learning.
- Proven competence in leadership and supervision of students and staff.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
- Knowledge of The Housing Director through StarRez software, Maxient student conduct software, Adobe Suite and proficient in using Microsoft Office suite.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Light sedentary office work.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Terms of Employment:
- This is a full-time, 12-month, live-in position.
- Evening and weekend On-Call Duty Rotation Responsibilities Required.
