Position Summary & Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair and operation of the physical plant and grounds of the Ellsworth Correctional Facility.

Job Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Designs practical on-the-job training for less experienced workers; develops cross-training experiences for workers to develop more versatility.
  • Assists supervisor in planning or project work, estimates materials and supplies needed for projects. Accepts or rejects materials and supplies.
  • Maintains control measures over worker safety, practices, and care of equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Supervises and trains inmates, clients, and residents in the performance of skilled craft level work.

Qualifications

Education: High diploma or GED

Licensing & Certification: Journey/advanced level experience in building trades and Freon licensing.

Minimum Qualifications: Five years of experience in the mechanical or building trades. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of the standard practice in the building trades; plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, painting, welding, sheet metal, refrigeration and air conditioning and mechanical trades. Knowledge of safety measures and occupational hazards of the trades and knowledge of regulations concerning hiring. Ability to read, interpret, and work from sketches, blueprints, and specifications. Ability to keep careful and thorough records. Ability to plan, organize, assign and approve or otherwise supervise the work of skilled craft workers. Ability to express oneself clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Skill in the use and operations of tools, machines, and equipment commonly used in construction and repair work at the skilled craft level. Skill in evaluating, analyzing and resolving construction and mechanical problems.

Selection Process: Applicants selected for an interview will be evaluated by an interview panel using performance/behavior-based interview questions. The interview panel will make recommendations to the Warden for final approval. A second interview may be conducted. Applicants will be subject to background check and criminal history investigation; must pass a drug screen and a TB test unless promoting, transferring, or demoting from another safety sensitive position within the same agency; and possess a valid Driver's License.
