Blumenthal Arts is seeking a hands-on Facilities Supervisor to support the operational excellence of its venues. This role leads daily maintenance activities while performing skilled work to ensure all facilities meet the standards of a premier performing arts organization. The Supervisor oversees Facilities Technicians, supports live events, maintains building systems, and coordinates with the City of Charlotte and external partners.
This position is ideal for a working supervisor who thrives in a fast-paced, public-facing, event-driven environment. A flexible schedule is required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, along with participation in an on-call rotation. Schedules may change frequently based on performance calendars and operational needs.
Your impact:
Leadership and Team Supervision
- Supervise, schedule, and develop a team of Facilities Maintenance Technicians
- Provide daily direction, training, and performance feedback
- Serve as a working supervisor – actively participating in maintenance tasks alongside staff
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and high service standards.
Facilities Maintenance & Operations
- Perform and oversee maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and general building systems
- Ensure all facilities – including theaters, lobbies, backstage, and support spaces – are maintained at a first-class standard
- Monitor and adjust environmental systems (temperature, airflow) to meet performer and patron comfort expectations
- Execute and track preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime
- Maintain equipment, tools, and parts inventory
Event & Venue Support
- Align maintenance activities with a complex performance and event schedule
- Ensure venues are event-ready at all times, with particular attention to public-facing areas
- Provide rapid response to facility issues during performances and high-attendance events
- Adjust work schedules and staffing to support nights, weekends, and holidays
Charlotte/Municipal Coordination
- Ensure BA service and presentation standards are upheld in shared or city-owned facilities
- Coordinate service requests and ensure timely resolution of work orders across jurisdictional responsibilities
- Navigate and track responsibilities related to lease agreements and operating partnerships
Building Systems & Reliability
- Maintain 24/7 operational readiness of critical systems, including HVAC, fire/life safety, and access control
- Utilize remote monitoring systems to adjust conditions as needed based on programming schedules
- Participate in on-call responsibilities to support continuous operations in a live-event environment
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and all applicable codes and regulations
- Conduct regular facility inspections and address safety concerns proactively
- Support emergency response readiness and incident management
Administrative & Financial Responsibilities
- Assist in managing departmental budgets, including supplies, repairs, and service contracts
- Review and maintain documentation (work orders, timecards, invoices, maintenance reports)
- Coordinate procurement of materials and services
- Maintain key control and building access systems in coordination with security and HR
Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Support small capital projects, renovations, and system upgrades
- Coordinate contractors and ensure compliance with scope, schedule and quality standards
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and guest experience

Skills You’ll Bring:
- Associate degree or trade certification
- At least 5 years of experience in facilities maintenance, including 2 years of supervisory experience
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building systems
- Technical or trade certifications (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) preferred
- Experience in a performing arts center, theater, arena, convention center or similar venue preferred
- Experience working in partnership with municipal agencies or public-private facilities preferred
- Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) and CMMS platforms preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, public-facing, event driven environment
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Hands on leadership and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and facility presentation
- Customer-service mindset aligned with patron and artist experience
- Ability to prioritize competing demands in a dynamic environment

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (often 50-75% of the workday)
- Frequent movement between buildings floors, and outdoor areas including stairs, confined/narrow backstage areas, and uneven flooring
- Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds regularly, and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and twist
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs and work at heights
- Ability to work in tight or confined spaces
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling tools, controls, and equipment
