Job Title: Cloud Infrastructure engineer
Location: Birmingham, AL or Remote (1 week travel initially during onboarding)
Duration: 6 Months approx. and can be extended
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Responsible for designing, implementing, and operating enterprise infrastructure across onpremises data centers and public cloud platforms. This role partners closely with development, security, and infrastructure teams to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available infrastructure platforms that support business-critical workloads.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, deploy, and support hybrid infrastructure environments spanning onpremises systems (compute, storage, virtualization) and cloud services (IaaS/PaaS)
- Collaborate with Security, Network, Service Desk, and Application teams to deliver secure and compliant infrastructure solutions
- Monitor system health, capacity, and performance across onpremises and cloud platforms; analyze trends and recommend improvements
- Ensure infrastructure platforms are highly available, resilient, and recoverable
- Support enterprise backup, retention, and recovery solutions across hybrid environments.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements aligned with enterprise strategy.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience (8+ years) will be considered
- Minimum of four years of enterprise infrastructure experience, including design, administration, and troubleshooting
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments (on-premises and public cloud)
- Working knowledge of cloud governance, policy enforcement, and cost management practices.
- Ability to automate infrastructure provisioning and management using scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash) and infrastructureascode tools (Terraform, Ansible).
- Strong working knowledge of Windows and Linux server platforms
OTHER PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Handson experience with enterprise cloud infrastructure technologies
- Experience with automation frameworks and CI/CD-style infrastructure workflows
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms (AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Datadog, or similar)
- Solid understanding of storage and networking fundamentals
- Experience with backup and recovery solutions
- Strong problemsolving skills and an ownership mindset
